CV of Henry Sun,PhD
Professor Sun is the International Director of the Business Research Institute (BRI), a Senior Fellow at the Pangoal Think Tank of China (2016.11 – present), a Visiting Professor at the University of Chester Business School (2007 – present), and an Adjunct Professor at the Management School of the New York Institute of Technology (2016.6 – present), where he teaches International Marketing, Consumer Behavior, and Political Marketing to PhD and MBA students. His past academic affiliations include Fellowship at the Rothermere American Institute, University of Oxford (2012-2013), ASH Center, Kennedy School of Harvard University (2010-2011), Center for American Studies, Peking University (2007-2009), and Asian Studies Center, Sciences Po, Paris (2007).
Education:
From 2006 to 2009, he studied and obtained a PhD Degree in International Politics from the School of International Studies, Peking University. From 1985 to 1987 he studied at the Business School of Pennsylvania State University and obtained an MSc in Marketing and published his PhD candidacy paper,The Effects of Political Events on Foreign Direct Investment in Marketing (Journal of GlobalMarketing, Spring 1988). From 1983 to 1985 he studied International Business at the Graduate School of the China Academy of Social Sciences. Dr. Sun has a bachelor degree in Trade Economics from Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics(1978-1982).
ProfessionalExperience:
Dr. Sun has worked for more than twenty years in international marketing in both the private and public sectors. As the Chairman of Marketing Committee, Dr. Sun was in charge the promotion for the Modern Pentathlon World Cup Final held in Florida in 2016. As the founder and CEO of Sun Inter-Technology Corp. (1989-present) he has provided consulting services for organizations such as General Electric, General Signal, Thomson, Cummins, Ontario Hydro, and two Canadian federal government agencies: Consulting and Audit Canada, Training and Development Canada. As a contracted consultant, he assisted in setting up joint ventures and wholly owned foreign ventures in China, such as General Signal (China) Ltd., Shengyang Stock Equipment Co., Sun Mining Equipment Co. and Sino-Canadian Management Institute.Dr. Sun facilitated the co-production of the first press automation line (Changan Auto) and the first robotic welding line (Dongfeng Auto) in the Chinese auto industry. He was in charge of the joint venture in Guangdong while working as its Vice President of Asian Operations (1988-89) and Manager of China Programs (1987-88) for QLT Inc., a pharmaceutical company in Vancouver Canada listed on NASDAQ.
Dr. Sun’s past and current board member positions include Landenberg Christian Academy, Sino-Canadian Management Institute, TRM – an NASDAQ company, the Newark Symphony Orchestra, the Chinese American Community Centers in Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania, and a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Political Marketing (USA) and the Journal of Public Affairs (UK), and as a member of the Advisory Board for Jefferson Bank.
Research andPublication:
Dr. Sun’s research papers on “International Political Marketing” have been published in theJournal of PublicAffairs(November, 2007, and August, 2008). He is a co-author of several books including:Business Opportunities in the FarEast(Dow Jones, 1990),Marketing(Textbook, Tsinghua University Press 2008),An Introduction to PoliticalMarketing(Fudan University Press, 2008),International PoliticalMarketing(Peking University Press, 2011), and as co-author of an article published in the book“Campaign for President 2012, Strategy andTactics” (Routledge, 2013). To further his political marketing research, Dr. Sun attended the 2016 National Conventions of both Republican and Democratic Parties. Dr. Sun has presented his research at the International Political Marketing Conference, at Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic (2015), Stockholm University, Sweden (2013), Manchester University, UK (2008), the University of Bucharest, Romania (2007), and at the Beijing Forums in 2010 and2014.
In 2009, Dr. Sun conducted political marketing research in France, sponsored by the French government under “Programme d'Invitation des Personnalités d'Avenir”. From 2006 to 2015, Dr. Sun has presented lectures at Oxford University, Harvard University, Sciences Po. Paris, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Tongji University, The American Studies Institute of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the Central Party School of China.
