Successful Completion of Dissertation Opening and Defense for the 2024 Master’s and Doctoral Overseas Students of the School of International Trade and Economics
In the last few days, The School of International Trade and Economics held a dissertation opening and defense meeting for the 2024 Master's and Doctoral students in Yizhen Building, which was conducted through both offline and online channels. The college attaches great importance to the dissertation opening defense of overseas students and invited Yuan Honglin (member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the university, vice president of the university), Wang Xiaoping (professor of the School of Economics), Huang Xianming (dean of the School of Overseas Education), Wu Chaoyang (dean of the School of International Trade and Economics), and Xu Tusheng (chief professor of the school), as the chairpersons of the defense to take part in this defense work. A total of 81 overseas students of Master of International Trade and 3 overseas students of PhD in International Trade from IMIB, MIB and IPM classes of 2021, 2022 and 2022 participated in the defense, which was held in 12 groups.
The defense mainly consisted of overseas students' opening statements, judges' comments, students' answers and judges' modifications. The overseas students elaborated their dissertations to the defense judges through PPT from the purpose and significance of the dissertation research, the significance of the topic selection, the difficulties and focuses, the basic framework, the research methodology, and the main references, respectively. The defense judges listened attentively and strictly, helped the students to clarify the research ideas and focuses, and put forward many inspiring opinions from the direction of the students' topic selection, the logic of the outline, the focus of the content, etc., pointed out the shortcomings and problems in the research ideas, and put forward pertinent and constructive opinions and suggestions on these problems, laying a foundation for the smooth opening and high-quality completion of students' graduation dissertation writing.
The opening defense not only fully demonstrated the professionalism and academic knowledge of overseas students in our college, but also helped overseas students to familiarize themselves with the process of dissertation defense in advance and correct their attitude towards dissertation writing. At the same time, the opening defense can make students have a clearer knowledge and planning for the dissertation writing, which lays the foundation for the dissertation writing to be completed with high quality.
