Associate Professor Zhang Yifan from the University of Hong Kong gave a lecture at the School of International Business and Economics

On the morning of December 30, 2020, on the afternoon of January 6, and on the afternoon of January 7, the School of International Business and Economics invited Associate Professor Zhang Yifan of the University of Hong Kong to hold "Persistent effects of initial labor market conditions: The case of China's tariff liberalization after WTO accession" and "Indivisibilities in The Ricardian model of trade: The case of Trade and Welfare Effects of CAFTA" theme lectures and the theme experience introduction and academic exchanges of "Frontiers in International Trade Research and High-end Paper Publication". The lecture was hosted by Xu Tongsheng, the chief professor of the School of International Economics and Trade, and more than 20 teachers and graduate students from the School of International Economics and Trade participated in the online exchange.

On the morning of December 30, Professor Zhang focused on the continuing impact of tariff cuts on the wages of new entrants to the labor market after joining the WTO. Lower regional tariffs often result in relatively lower wages for workers. Although over time, the adverse effects of lowering tariffs on the wages of employees will weaken, but these adverse effects will continue for a longer period of time, and the effects are particularly obvious among workers in the trade sector and lower-educated groups. On the afternoon of January 6, Associate Professor Zhang Yifan focused on the bilateral trade situation between the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area and most of the OECD member countries, analyzed and expounded the current research status of China's international trade. And through the establishment of a Ricardo trade model in which production and consumption are inseparable, to quantify and analyze the indivisibility of consumption that may lead to the heterogeneity of consumption. On the afternoon of January 7, Professor Zhang first introduced the current research frontier topics of international trade. Secondly, it analyzes and expounds the current research status of China's international trade. At the same time, in response to the problems that teachers and students may encounter in the publication of international high-end papers, Mr. Zhang also introduced some valuable experiences and methods.

The themes of the three lectures are all related to the current form of international trade. Professor Zhang explained the current research status of international trade with detailed data and vivid language. The logic is clear, the discussion is profound, and the students are very forward-looking and instructive. The students benefited a lot. After the lecture, Associate Professor Zhang Yifan gave detailed answers to questions raised by teachers and students present.
